Heading to the capital to see an Orthpedic...
I REALLY hope I don’t have something wrong with my miniscus.
I haven’t run in over a month due to my knee. Walking over a mile and going downhill is so painful.
But, on the bright side I’ll be home in about 17 days. :)
Then regular blogging will return.
Una promesa. :)
Best Follower Ever!
Mid-January was a really REALLY hard time for me. There were tons of new changes, information, and news from Peace Corps regarding our department and I was either in a constant state of frustration or sadness.
During our All Volunteer Conference (which SUCKED and everyone was crying) I received the most AMAZING package that brought tears to my eyes (this time tears of joy!)
Meet Liz. You guys...

About to climb up to the Mirador of Semuc Champey.

Food Obsession: Beets
Since I have been living in Guatemala, I have become somewhat obsessed with beets. I never knew I liked them before living here. In fact I assumed I hated them, even though I can not ever recall actually trying them. It must have been the little kid in me refusing to eat strange looking veggies. BUT, since beets can be found in a number of Guatemalan dishes, I have become obsessed!
Beets, beets,...
Sometimes you have to let the chips fall where...
Hi blogosphere, it’s me enoughfluff
Oh you mean you don’t know me? I’ve been gone so long that you’ve forgotten who I am, huh? That’s okay. Let’s get to know each other again shall we?
Oh hey, I’m Madelynn.
I currently find myself weighing anywhere from 135 - 142 lbs. My weight fluctuates more than the stock market.
In February 2010, I weighed 236...

Feliz Navidad a todos. :)
Finally home sweet home!
So after yesterday’s travel day from hell…
Up at 5am only to be in Mexico by 11am and wait for my next flight at 7pm only to get it delayed to 8pm. (Longest layover of my life? I think yes.)
I’m finally home!!
(insert celebratory marching bands and firework display here)
I ended up drinking my weight in calorific drinks. Including one presidente margarita from the...
I Reheheheheally want to have a Fitblr California...
Is this possible?
Anyone interested?
p.s. Southern California…. Or if it’s New Year’s Eve weekend then Northern (aka SF)
p.p.s. By Southern California I mean Orange County…ish…

133.4 this morning
Finally seeing the numbers drop a bit!
Since I board the bus bright and early tomorrow morning this will probably be my last weigh in until after Christmas. Or maybe I’ll sneak in a quick weigh in before the crack of dawn bus tomorrow.
So all in all, I didn’t make my goal of being pre-half marathon (132.0 lbs) weight before going home for Christmas. But I wasn’t too far off!...
I'm SO excited to eat ALL THINGS SALAD when I get...
As a golden rule you should stay away from all things lettuce in Guate. Unless you disinfect it first, but really that’s a pain in the ass and I always taste the lingering bleach.
BUT, when I’m home for Christmas I’m going to EAT ALL THE SALAD.
With fancy cheeses.
Dressings that have nothing to do with Mayonnaise of any kind.
Ooh like champagne pear vinaigrette.
Greek...
I'm obsessed with toilet paper roll crafts.
So Guatemala is officially in vacation mode (meaning absolutely no work to be done) and I’m just counting down the days until I get to come home to visit (t-minus 6 days!!). So I’ve been of course making the most awesome toilet paper roll crafts EVER.
Case in point:
This lovely wall hanging that I found here.
So over the course of the last couple days, I constructed this pretty...

25 calories.
HOLLA!
Ran one measly mile for the first time in a couple...
My time was awesome at 9:35 ish, but I felt as if my lungs were going to explode.
I hate high altitude.
Now cleaning my room, blasting Christmas music and drinking hot berry green tea. Yum.
Can’t wait to run when I get home though. Sea level here I come!
WIW - The Frick Edition
Last Week = 133.5
This Week = 135.0
Frick frick frick.
WTF.
How have I gained 1.5 lbs in a week?
I cut out diet soda completely - that should count for something RIGHT? Wrong. Diet soda helps me feel full with my meals and now without it maybe I’m eating too much? Maybe I’m just not being active enough?
I just can’t even….
sigh.

Skinned knee trying to show off my badass mediocre backhand tricks and cartwheels

Try new fruit!
Here we have a fruit called Sapote, and besides looking creepily like a va-jay-jay, it is also a soft edible fruit native to Mexico, Central and South America.
So I tried it for the first time and it wasn’t too shabby! It’s not too sweet, but also sweet enough and kind of reminds me of squash. I would definitely try it again.
So what are you waiting for? Try something new that...

Confession
I feel that nothing can beat 2010 on the amazingness-o-meter. 2010 was the best year of my life. Full of spectacular triumphs and failures, but all for a better and happier me.
Don’t get me wrong, 2011 has had a few very remarkable and many fantastic moments.
But, nothing beats 2010. I’m afraid nothing will.
Doesn’t that just sound crazy?
WIW
Last weigh-in (November 12, 2011) = 132.2
This week = 133.5
So it’s been a ridiculously long time since my last WIW. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still weighing myself and still seeing the number climb every damn day, but I haven’t been so keen on posting exact numbers. So since I only have FOURTEEN DAYS until I’m home I need to be more honest with myself and you...
I have an addiction to diet soda.
I think know this is hindering my weight loss.
Must. Kick. Habit.

COME KICK MY ASS
So I’m home in 17, COUNT ‘EM 17 DAYS! But, I have a problem. I have fallen off the wagon and have no motivation to work out or eat well.
Somebody please get on a flight to Guatemala, take a five hour chicken bus ride to my site, walk ten minutes through corn fields and brave a brigade of evil street dogs to come kick my ass!
I know I’m going to eat my little heart out and...

You know how I said I discovered the best popcorn...
The newly crowned best white popcorn combo?
Lime + Salt + Honey.
It’s off the hook.
Word to your mother.
Apparently I’m a wannabe gangster now.
Best Christmas present ever? I think yes!
My site mate made me this Christmas tree with all sorts of random Guatemalan knick knacks and origami animals & snowflakes.
Best part of the tree?
Exhibit A: (tiny Guate flag)
Exhibit B: (Peace Corps represent!)
It’s Christmas early in Guatemala city. The malls in the capital are ridiculously nice and were definitely the best part of my trip to get my chest x-ray. Closer to...
Looking on the bright side of things...
So before I moved to Guatemala, I knew there would be risks involved. But, when I thought about risks I thought about parasites, earthquakes, landslides, giardia, etc.
Never did I think about Tuberculosis.
Then I moved to Guatemala and after three months of grueling Peace Corps training I learned just how prevalent TB is in Guatemala. With 8,900 new TB cases in 2010 alone!
Somewhere along the...
Plantar Fasciitis...I thinks I gots it.
So ever since the half marathon a mere 9 days ago I’ve had immense pain with the arch of my left foot.
Whenever I walk it feels as if the muscle is incredibly tight and it hurts.
So I did a little researching and discovered a lovely little problem called plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is caused by straining the ligament that supports your arch. Repeated strain can cause tiny...
Oh wait I forgot to mention my KICK ASS run this...
4 miles in 38:30 with a 5K time of 29:07.
Boo to the yeah.
Can’t touch this….
T-minus two days till T-day
I’m in charge of making ponche (a warm almost apple cider type drink but with different types of fruit), grilled corn, and harvest-stuffed portobello mushrooms (recipe here).
I’m SO excited.
Then come Saturday I’m going to a freaking waterpark (!!!) called Xocomil.
Me + bathing suit + public = disaster.
But, I’m going to try my best to overcome my fears and conquer...
Impromptu sushi salad
My family sent me a care package with some yummy seaweed so my sitemate and I decided to get a little creative. This is where the most delicious california roll (sans crab meat) salad comes in. Quick and easy and very yummy.

Ingredients:
1 cup quinoa (or brown rice)
1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons rice vinegar* (not seasoned)
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Xela Half Marathon
So I’ve now officially completed two half marathons and they were both completely different.
I don’t have any pictures, besides this one:
The night before is always fun. Carbo-loading and nerve-racking preparations. :)
So this half was a lot harder than my last one (Huntington Beach ,California Surf City Half Marathon February 2011). Blame it on the hills, blame it on the altitude,...
WIS - Weigh in Saturday
Since I’ve been internet less for over a week and next week I’ll be scaleless I’ve decided not to weigh myself until Thanksgiving morning. Which is slightly less than two weeks away. My mom is coming to visit so hopefully that won’t hinder my weight loss, but if it does…it was worth it!
Last weigh-in=134.4
This morning=132.2
So that’s a loss of about 2.2...
Carbo-loading, the best part of racing...well...
My yummy focaccia caprese sandwich that’s the size of my head! This was only one half. I can’t even finish it, but yum. Tonight is pizza. :)
Like the nails? My sitemate and I decided to get festively funky for the half marathon tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow is my second half marathon!
:)
Quick Update
Since I do not have internet this week or last week I just wanted to quickly update you guys.
Last week I was super sick (to stay away from TMI let us just say that parasites suck). So subsequently I did not run at all last week and gained a pound from sleeping and eating the day away. Oh well! Back to semi-normal now and the half marathon is in FIVE DAYS!
I ran for the first time in a week this...

November Nub
Weight as of October 1st = 136 lbs.
Weight as of this morning = 134 lbs.
Which means a total loss of only 2 lbs for the month of October. But, here’s the thing I’m not bummed at all! Yes 2 lbs seems measly in comparison to what I was losing before, but I know how much harder it is to lose weight when you’re close to your goal weight. I’m not in a race to see the 120s....
